Earning From Your Poetry
Writing poetry should be its own reward, a poet should not approach his/her work with a view to making money. If they do, they are often sorely disappointed. A lot of the money poets receive is through grants and that usually occurs in the case of well established poets.
Becoming A Better Poet
There are lot's of ways to improve your writing, and like with any form of creative writing, reading is one of them. Reading a piece from a different poet every day can broaden your approach to poetry and give your own writing a more layered style.
Don't try too hard when you write a first draft of a poem. The trying can come later when you edit and refine that poem.
Never write to please. Language is relative and different people will interperet the same poem in different ways. In short, you will never please everyone. Remember how it was obligitory to rhyme in poetry? Then it became "uncool". Forget all of that. Do whatever you feel comfortable with.
Above all, remember that the nature of poetry should be an expressive one.
